Eat Alkalizing Foods to Improve Your Health and Lose Weight

!±8± Eat Alkalizing Foods to Improve Your Health and Lose Weight

Alkalizing your body can help you improve your health and reach your ideal weight. The process starts by reducing the amount of acid you put into your body. Alkalizing foods will help you balance out the acidic foods you do eat and help your body maintain the optimal pH of 7.35 without having to neutralize acid by storing it excess body fat.

Alkaline foods have a pH higher than 7.0. Unlike acidic foods that can be as low as 2.5, alkaline foods are usually only slightly above 7.0. This means it can take a lot of alkaline foods to balance out a smaller amount of acidic foods.

Green vegetables are one of the best sources of alkalizing foods. You don't need to worry about which vegetable. If it is green, it probably has a pH of around 7.5 to 8.0 and is full of beneficial vitamins and minerals. Cucumbers are one of the most alkaline vegetables you can eat.

Sprouts are another great source of alkalizing nutrients. Sprouting seeds are full of nutrients and are more alkalizing than the seeds they come from or the foods they grow into. Common sprouts include alfalfa, bean, and broccoli. Almost any bean, grain, or seed can be sprouted to provide an alkalizing food.

One of the best sources of alkalizing foods is grasses. You won't eat the grass, but you can juice it or get it in supplement form. Some of the most alkalizing grasses are wheat grass, kamut grass, and barley grass. Wheat grass, in particular, is becoming very popular at health food stores and juice bars.

There are a few alkalizing foods that may surprise you. Lemons, limes, and grapefruits all have an alkalizing effect on your body. While they are chemically acidic, they have an alkalizing effect on your body. Try starting your day with a grapefruit or squeezing some lemon into your drinking water throughout the day to help you alkalize.

The key to eating alkalizing foods is buy organic whenever possible and eat them fresh. Organic foods are healthier, taste better, and usually are more alkaline than their chemically fertilized counterparts. If you have to cook your vegetables, cook them as little as possible and try to keep the temperature below 118 which is where many beneficial enzymes are destroyed.

Alkalizing your body is a balance of eating more alkaline foods and less acidic foods. Start by adding a fresh green vegetable to every meal. This will help balance any acidic food you eat and also help you get full sooner so you eat less of the acidic foods on your plate. After that, find a fresh vegetable that you can snack on instead of a sugary, acidic candy bar. Wash it all down with a glass of water with a little lemon juice squeezed into it instead of a soft drink or coffee. These simple changes can go a long ways towards alkalizing your body and helping you reach your optimal weight.

Fast Growing Grass Seed - Beautiful Lawns Fast

!±8± Fast Growing Grass Seed - Beautiful Lawns Fast

The most important thing to remember when seeding a lawn is that the soil, temperature and moisture level all play key roles in the sprouting process. It is also important to have the necessary equipment before you get started. Checking the weather is key as well. Excessive rain after planting equals disastrous results, i.e., you don't want a muddy wash outside of your front door. Now is the perfect time to start planting those seeds because even though the grass will sprout, grow a little then die in the winter, that is a surefire sign that come Spring your lawn will grow in and glisten with the morning dew.

The first thing you need to do is get a metal rake and a tiller if you can afford one. If not rent or borrow one it will be worth the effort. Next a little hand rake is perfect for the kids to feel like they are involved in the process. Gardening with kids is an easy way to spend time together as a family. It's a great activity for any gender and any age child. Then the fast growing grass seed should be a high quality brand purchased from a home and garden specialty store. Home Depot for example has an excellent quality and variety of grass seed. Select the type of grass you would like to compliment your home and landscape. This is important to think about because it covers a huge portion of your home. It can compliment a new paint job or enhance fixtures in your yard.

Speak to a landscape designer if you are clueless as to what would look best. Follow this rule of thumb if you do not have time for that. In a typically shady yard I would go for a light colored small bladed golf course type of grass that has a lime green shade to it. Very sunny yards may need a darker thicker bladed grass to stand up to the heat. Most yards are a combination of sunny patches and shady patches as the day wears on. It is really a matter of taste. Whatever you prefer just go with one type of grass and commit to it. Your entire yard should look neat, and uniform. Think about dressing for a job interview. You may want to sell your home someday so don't get creative with the grass seed. That is what the plants and bushes and flowers are for.

Try Scott's brand because this is a fast growing grass seed and does come up within days of planting. Do not get a large quantity of "the infomercial grass seed" shake it onto your lawn expecting to have the "oh so perfect lawn." This product is not the fast growing grass seed that Scott's brand is. It is meant for filling in spots, but you should just use the seeds purchased for this. There is no magical way to grow a new lawn. Just like everything else in life, it takes time, hard work, and sometimes requires a team. Plan an entire day and devote your efforts exclusively to this task. Celebrate the possibilities and fun ways to enjoy your new lawn after the sun goes down.

Please understand the rewards will be worth the efforts. Next comes the difficult part. If the lawn is being redeemed, you have a ton of work to do, fire up that tiller and find someone with mussels willing to give it all they have got and till up all your old grass. Next grab a wife, or a girlfriend, boyfriend, teenager, or neighbor to go behind you after the tilling has been done and rake out all of the old grass. Try to stay in neat rows so you and the person tilling can be opposite of each other in the yard. This works out well. Wear earplugs and daydream. The Buddhists use raking to clear their minds and help them solve problems. This is very therapeutic work.

Next, clean up the rocks and break up any dirt chunks, make certain most of the old grass has been removed. Now comes the fun part. Obtain a seed spreader (if it is in your budget) if not that's okay. You can use the hands god gave you to sprinkle an ample amount of your amazing, fast growing grass seed. Gage your seed purchase accordingly: Small yards 1-2 bags, medium yards 2-3 bags and a large yards take 3 bags.

Go over each area to take care to see that all of the dirt is covered by seeds. Next you want to water it a little bit. Not too much. Go inside, eat, drink and be merry and hope it doesn't pour down rain. In the morning maybe check to see if the soil is damp and water it a little bit more if need be but really no more than five minutes for the entire lawn

Last, (again if and only if it's in the budget) get a sprinkler that makes a nice arch of water and only water when the soil feels dry to the touch. You want to make sure it stays moist during the germination process. Filling in seeds as you go on throughout the week is great if you can pay attention to the areas that may look a little sparse. Never water the seeds with heavy water pressure and do not over water when you start to see sprouts come up. Let them grow a bit skip a few days of watering and then see if they need another watering in a few days. After that you just maintain the amount of water according to the rain in the forecast. Do not worry if it rains just hold back on watering. Use common sense and see a gorgeous law start to grow in thanks to your fast growing grass seed.

Tips For Growing Healthy Grass On Your First Try

!±8± Tips For Growing Healthy Grass On Your First Try

It is a well known fact that the best time to seed your lawn is autumn, after the hottest weather. People must forget this fact though, because most grass seed is sold in the spring. If you do have to seed in the spring, you should do so as soon as the ground thaws. The roots need time to gain strength before the weather gets too hot. In the summer, grass has do deal with dry conditions, hot weather, and competition with weeds. It is tough for it to try to begin growing in these conditions. If you don't seed in the fall, and miss the early spring window, you should make a temporary lawn out of rye grass until you can make your permanent lawn in the fall.

Grass seed is smaller than most other plant seeds, and it should be planted shallow. The larger grass seeds should be fully covered with moist soil, whereas smaller seeds like bent grass only need to be partially covered by moist soil. For every 1000 square feet of lawn you have, you should use 4 lbs. of seed. Adding extra seeds won't compensate for poor growing conditions. In fact, it will hurt the growth because the seedling will have to compete with one another.

You can hand spread the seeds if necessary, but it is better to use a mechanical spreader if possible when sowing grass seed. Either way, you should sow the seeds by spreading part in one direction, then the rest crosswise. This will ensure that you didn't miss any spots. You should then lightly rake the seeds. To firm the seeds in the soil, you should roll over it lightly with a roller. You can put a small amount (1/8 inch) of compost or screened soil over small lawns.

If you lawn is sloped, you need to take some extra precautions so new seedlings won't wash down the slope with rain water. One option is to cover the area with straw. Another option is to cover the seedlings with an open mesh cloth that will just become part of the soil and dissolve with time. It will protect the seedlings from washing away and from sun exposure. If you use burlap to cover the seedlings, it should be removed when the grass grows to a height of around ¼ inch.

To water the seeds, natural rainfall is best if possible. You will have to water it yourself if the weather isn't cooperating though. You should water in the early morning with a misty spray. You don't want puddles to form. The grass will die if you don't keep the moisture supply constant once it they sprout.

In areas that are level, you should use a sprinkler to water about 5 inches of soil each time you water. The soil should not become compacted or waterlogged though. If the grass is on a slope, you should water it with a canvas hose or a hose wrapped in porous canvas. The water should ooze out in big drops. Once the grass starts to grow, don't be tempted to mow too soon. The grass shouldn't be mowed until it is at least 2 inches high.

Growing Roses From Seed

!±8± Growing Roses From Seed

Congratulations! This is an admirable way of growing roses. Although being able to grow roses from seed can be tricky and requires more patience than most areas of gardening, you can't beat the feeling of seeing something mature successfully from a tiny seed.

The Seed

There are packet varieties and seeds from rosehips, the fruit of the rose plant. If you're going to go down the growing from seed route why not go as natural as possible and use rosehips from a friend's rose or a wild one as you're walking along somewhere, you may be surprised at how many you find. Look for them after blooms have fallen and pick the, 'rosehips', when they look their ripest. Once they start to wrinkle they're beginning to dry out and not at their best. Please be careful as these rosehips itch, treat them like chillies.

Preparation

There are different methods but I've had the most success by using a combination of methods and that's what I'll share with you. Split the rosehips to expose the, 'seeds', they're creamy white and not actually the seed, they're inside but for what we need we will treat them as seeds. Clean these seeds thoroughly removing all the flesh.

Now place them about an inch apart on a damp towel, leaving plenty of towel around the edge of the seeds to be able to fold over without disturbing them. Place this folded damp towel in a sealable plastic bag and place in your fridge. This is the stratification process and is used the trick the seed in sprouting, leave for five or six weeks and check for any root tips that might be emerging. Leave for longer if they're not and check weekly for any changes.

Transfer

Once you have some that have sprouting roots transfer them to a pot or container. This can be real tricky so tweezers may help, damp the towel if you're struggling and that will free them off nicely. The seeds need good drainage, moisture and warmth so black plastic containers are best. Transfer these little sprouting seeds to the soil in your container making sure to leave a space of an inch all around them and about a quarter of an inch deep. Make sure that whatever potting soil you're using that it's sterile before you expose the seeds to it. Water well making sure they drain adequately also. When the seedlings are a few inches high you can transfer them to their own individual pot, they can take a few years to reach maturity by then becoming a big bush but they will flower before then.

How to Germinate Seeds for Growers

!±8± How to Germinate Seeds for Growers

When you start germinating seeds the seed will start to awaken. Water is a must here, as soon as the seed absorbs enough water the seed will start to form a root system. Then the seed will start to break through its shell. You have various options for the process of germinating.

The first option is presoaking. You do this by putting some moist tissues on a plate the place the seeds on top of them and with a layer of moist tissues. Then cover that plate with another upturned plate, so that the seeds are in darkness and this also helps keep the seeds moist. (Keep the seeds in a warm area). You will want to check the seeds every day and sprinkle the tissues if necessary. Carefully transplant the seeds when they sprout and the tip of the root becomes visible. Plant the seed in a growing medium (soil or rock-wool), approximately the size of the seed under the surface about 5 mm.

Your second option is to sow your seed in a medium, place the seeds under the surface in the growing medium approximately the size of the seed. Then position the seeds in soil where they are pointed end up. Regularly sprinkle the growth medium with water, but make sure that the soil or the rock-wool does not become too wet. The seedlings will use spare food present for growing. Air is very important for its metabolism. So you will want to make sure that the soil remains airy. Remove the cover as soon as the seedlings reach above the medium. Both options work very well, we at http://AdvancedNutrientsShop.com find using the wet paper towel method is the easiest. Enjoy gardening!

Sprouting Basics - Make Sprouts at Home and Add Nutrients to Your Diet

!±8± Sprouting Basics - Make Sprouts at Home and Add Nutrients to Your Diet

Sprouts make for an excellent source of fiber, antioxidants, protein, enzymes and vitamins and the fact that they taste good makes them even better! Sprouts are in actual fact seeds that have started to grow and can be grown in the comfort of your own home from beans, grains and vegetable seeds.

Not only will you save money by growing your own sprouts, but you will also be able to enjoy your sprouts fresh which means that they will contain higher levels of nutrients than the sprouts you buy in the shops.

Start Growing Your Own Sprouts
When planning on growing sprouts at home, try to get organic seeds and make sure you have a spot that receives enough light but not direct sunlight.

1. You will need to soak your seeds prior to planting them in the sprouting container. The amount of time you need to soak the seeds for will depend on the kind of seed you have chosen.
2. After soaking, drain and rinse the seeds and then move them to your sprouting container.
3. Cover your container with either Clingfilm or a lid as this will stop your sprouts from drying out.
4. Rinse and drain the seeds every morning and evening to stop any mold from forming.
5. After a couple of days as indicated on the packet, your seeds will be ready for harvesting.
6. Rinse the sprouts and either eat immediately or store in your fridge.
7. When storing sprouts in the fridge remember to rinse them once a day.

If your sprouting environment is either too hot, too wet or if you do not rinse you sprouts frequently, mould will start to form on the sprouts. Should this happen it is best that you throw away the entire batch, wash the sprouting container, rinse it with vinegar and start over again. If you add a few radish seeds they will assist in the prevention of mould forming on your sprouts.

For the best sprouts you environment needs to be:
* Not too wet or too dry
* Not too cold or too hot (a room temperature of 22 degrees Celsius is ideal)
* Not too dark and not too bright (no direct sunlight)

Seeds You Can Use for Sprouting
* Mung Beans - Soak these for 12 hours and sprout in either a jar or a tray. The sprouts are ready for harvesting when the roots are about 2 inches long.
* Peas - Pea sprouts will grow in about 3 days at which time the roots will be 2 inches long if sprouted in a glass jar.
* Soybeans - Soak the beans for 12 hours and sprout in a glass jar or pot and the sprouts will be ready in about 5 days.
* Lentils - Lentils need to be soaked for 12 hours and then sprouted in a plant pot or glass jar. The sprouts will be ready in about 4 days.
* Broccoli, Radish and Alfalfa - Soak these seeds for between 6 and 12 hours. The seeds can be planted in pot or in flat trays with soil. Sprouts will be ready in about 6 days.

Tip: When buying seeds for sprouting make sure that the seeds are not intended for planting as some planting seeds are treated with insecticides.
